  • NVIDIA halts SHIELD TV's Oreo update because of "a couple of issues"

NVIDIA started rolling out the Android 8.0 update to its SHIELD TV last week, and with it came the new Oreo launcher, the latest security updates, plenty of improvements, but also "a couple of issues." That's why NVIDIA is halting the update until it can fix things and resume the rollout.

The news was announced by a tech support rep on the GeForce forums. Here is his statement:
    Hi All

We’ve uncovered a couple issues thanks to feedback from our preview program that we’d like to fix prior to rolling out SHIELD TV Experience Upgrade 7.0 to more users. We’re actively working to resolve the issues that have been encountered and hope to be able to restart the rollout shortly.

We appreciate your patience and want to ensure you have the best experience possible. Stay tuned and we’ll provide updates as we have them.

There's no explanation as to what the issues exactly are. My SHIELD TV got updated a few days ago and I noticed very frequent disconnections from my WiFi network, which are making streaming anything a super frustrating experience, so I hope that's one of the issues that is being resolved. Others have also complained about some of the changes in the launcher — no easy shutdown method, pointless YouTube channels — but those are due to the Oreo implementation and not issues NVIDIA can fix.

We'll keep an eye out and let you know when the rollout resumes.

We’ve known the main features of Amlogic S905Y2 and S905X2 processors namely an upgrade to an Arm Mali-G31MP2 GPU with OpenGLES 3.1, and support for USB 3. since last month, and TV boxes launched earlier this month with products such as Beelink GT1 Mini or A95X Plus.

But we were still missing some parameters like the manufacturing process, max CPU and GPU frequencies, and so on. We now have all this information

ODROID-H2 Intel Celeron J4105 Single Board Computer to Launch in November

There were talks about Hardkernel working on an ODROID x86 board since last year, as the CEO expected to launch such board later in 2017 in an interview published in ODROID magazine. Finally, it took them several iterations and processors considerations before being ready for launch, and ODROID-H2 should become available next month as the first ODROID x86 board.

Qualcomm QCA64x8 and QCA64x1 802.11ay WiFi Chipsets Deliver 10 Gbps Bandwidth

WiFi has evolved in recent years with the introduction of 802.11ad and 802.11ax (now called WiFi 6). THe latter is now official, and in the last year several 802.11ax chipsets and WiFi 6 routers have been announced, but I’ve not heard much about 802.11ad with claims of up to 7Gbps bandwidth at 60 GHz when unveiled in 2016.

The latter have been supplanted by 802.11ay, with Qualcomm having
